About Us
Who is the school for?
We'll be opening our independent school for self-directed education in January 2026 for up to 24 children between the ages of 7 and 14 years, supported by at least 4 adults at any one time, nestled in the countryside of the Hertfordshire/Buckinghamshire/Bedfordshire borders. With one adult to every 6 children, we are able to adopt a holistic, Human Scale Education approach. We will be open to full-time, flexi-school and home educated learners.

Why the name?

At our core is a belief that children are natural learners. We need only cultivate a suitable environment in which they are happy and content, for curiosity, learning and growth to be unavoidable consequences.
We provide a nurturing environment, rich in opportunities to spend time in nature, where human connections are supported to be harmonious and people can flourish.
How does learning occur if there are no lessons?
Learning takes place through a mixture of immersive projects (solo and collaborative), self-directed exploration and play.

We seek to create the optimum environment for learning to take place, based on evidence-based research (such as those discussed in Daniel H Pink's book; Drive), namely a safe, playful, natural, bright, non-competitive, purposeful and non-judgmental setting, where each learner takes ownership of their own progress in a meaningful way, from an early age.

What are your core values?

Curiosity

Instead of dictating a curriculum, learners collaborate to design projects around their own curiosity and engage in those projects either independently or collaboratively, as appropriate.

Creativity

Music, visual arts, drama, dance, entrepreneurial-thinking and problem-solving skills are developed through integration in project-based learning, as well as being available to explore at any time.
Connection
In the rapidly changing landscape of an increasingly polarised world, the ability to empathise and resolve conflicts may be the most valuable skill-set for us all to develop.

Empowering children to engage and communicate with each other and themselves in an empathic way (inspired by Marshall Rosenberg's: Nonviolent Communication) helps to create an environment in which individuals flourish.
Exploring connections is not limited to human-to-human connections, but includes connection to nature and the universe. The complex relationship between the autonomy and interdependence of which, is fertile ground for discussion.
